Plot Summary
The movie follows Ray Breslin (Stallone), a former prosecutor who runs a security firm that specializes in testing the reliability of maximum security prisons. He is hired by the CIA to test a secret prison called The Tomb, which is located in an unknown location and uses advanced technology to prevent escapes. However, he soon realizes that he has been set up by his partner Lester Clark (Vincent D'Onofrio) and the warden of The Tomb, Willard Hobbes (Jim Caviezel), who want to keep him imprisoned for his knowledge of the prison's design.
Breslin meets Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger), another inmate who claims to be an associate of a notorious terrorist named Victor Mannheim. Rottmayer offers to help Breslin escape in exchange for delivering a message to Mannheim once they are out. Together, they devise a plan to overcome the prison's security systems and find a way out. They also enlist the help of other inmates, such as Javed (Faran Tahir), a Muslim hacker who can access the prison's network, and Hush (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson), Breslin's colleague who poses as a prisoner to communicate with him.
After several attempts and setbacks, Breslin and Rottmayer manage to escape from The Tomb with the help of a helicopter pilot named Abigail Ross (Amy Ryan), who works for Breslin's firm. They also expose Clark and Hobbes' involvement in the conspiracy and reveal that The Tomb is actually a ship in the middle of the ocean. Breslin then learns that Rottmayer is actually Mannheim himself, and that he wanted to escape from The Tomb to stop a global financial crisis caused by his former partner Drake (Sam Neill), who works as the prison's doctor. Breslin agrees to help Mannheim stop Drake and they part ways as friends.
